A Letter From a Friend
"Jack and I started
Navigator training at Mather AFB, CA in July 1969. Jack used to drive his big
red Old "442" and we all used to have a ball cruising in that big beast. When
time came for our pick of assignments I had a choice of an F4 or KC-135.
Since Jack was not married and my wife didn't like the idea of me going to a
fast mover I took the tanker and he took the F4. We graduated and the next
time I saw Jack was as he was passing through Guam with his fighter squadron
on the way to Thailand. I was flying B-52s (I eventually went to EW school
instead of tankers) at the time. Next I heard about Jack was when I was
attending the 1st Real River Rats Reunion in Las Vegas in 1973. I became a
member of that organization because of all of the BUFF missions up North. At
the reunion I ran into one of my other Navigator school classmates, Capt.
Jerry Herron (former POW) who told me and my wife that Jack had been killed
(or assumed so) on a night bombing mission in I believe Cambodia - he is
greatly missed by us both and I am sure by many others. Check "SIX" Jack."
